Project Overview

I led the UX visual design for the FieldVision platform, the first mobile app on GE’s Predix platform for industrial IOT solutions. It enables field engineers to track and perform highly complex tasks and be more efficient, ultimately saving the company and our customers time and money. It also served as a great tool to enable the GE sales team.

My Role

I led the visual design for the entire application and ensured consistency throughout the experience. I was also responsible for the Interaction Design of 2 features.

I worked closely with a team of 5 Interaction Designers, conducting user interviews, contextual inquiries, and assisting with quantitative research. This was a large scale initiative consisting of 18 different features which were essentially apps in themselves. There were multiple stakeholders and a very large product team consisting of: 60+ engineers, 3 Product Managers, 6 Interaction Designers, and 1 Visual Designer (me).

To manage designing at this scale, I created a reusable design system that enabled consistency for the other designers on the team. I also lead the charge of driving consistency across the application by collaborating closely with the other designers and conducting regular UX audits and alignment session. I worked closely with 6 engineering pods, doing QA, and reviewing the builds on a regular basis for consistency.

For our highly successful MVP release we shipped designs for 10 features, 30+ global patterns, 15 core platform services, 80+ UI components.

It received high visibility in a demo at GE’s annual Mind+Machines conference. Jim Fowler highlighted it during multiple executive updates.

In addition, he presented my work to our CEO, Jeff Immelt, and it was extremely well received!

I created a scalable mobile design system to accelerate adoption & acoomodate the many use cases in the application.

FieldVision Branding

I designed the branding for the app. The FieldVision logo and branding colors create a modern look / feel and reflect the overall color theme we are using through out the platform. Color plays an important role in creating a positive & impactful first impression when a user launches into the application.

Showcase Site

Finally, I designed a marketing site for the app to showcase the features and enable adoption for other GE businesses or customers.
